Air Product - Systems Architect

Air Content and Distribution is going through disruption with the emergence of new distribution technologies and fragmentation of content availability.  New Distribution Capability (NDC) has the potential to transform airline distribution and is at the forefront of this disruption. Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) has strengthened its technology roadmap and air content offering to customers by investing in it’s air supply products and solutions. These products include TPConnects, a leading provider of travel technology solutions focusing on aggregation across providers and enhanced content including NDC (New Distribution Capability) and the One Order initiatives from IATA.   

As our strategy is to offer the best content to our customers seamlessly, regardless of where that is booked, our multi source strategy brings with is some complexity. As technology solutions within the airline industry evolve, our blended FCTG solution needs to be designed and maintained to take advantage of these evolutions, not be held back by them. We are looking for a Technical Architect to design the structure of our blended solution and oversee programs to ensure the proper architecture is implemented.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is able to translate complex requirements into functional architecture. We would also like you to have hands-on experience on software development and be able to manage complex programs, plus great industry knowledge so you can identify areas of opportunity and improvement for FCTG and integration across disparate partners and solution providers.

    • Able to work across assess technology and architectural choices to find the best fit the solution that supports the current issue and future evolution of a product
    • Fact-driven above all, with choices driven by data, testing and observation rather than opinions
    • Obsessed with developer experience and how APIs and developer tools can enable faster iteration and better customer experiences

Know:

    • Is the leading subject matter expert on his or her specific business purpose and interactions
    • Relevant understanding of different sources of content such as NDC, LCC API & GDS

Skills & background:

  • Design and Implement AWS architectures and environments.
  • Design Native Cloud Application Architectures or optimize applications for AWS
  • AWS cloud full stack
  • Selected coding languages (e.g. JavaScript, Java)
  • Familiarity with various operating systems (e.g. Windows, UNIX) and databases (e.g. SQL / NoSQL)
  • Experience in cloud technologies (e.g. VMware)

    • Engage with developers to clearly articulate build requirements and enforce agreed development time lines
    • Drive success through continuous testing and performance improvement
    • Integrate business, user experience and technology to drive company goals
    • Getting to know our customers and partners so you can understand their needs, identify product gaps and gather feedback on new product ideas
  • Take ambiguous problems and turn them into clearly defined scope, ensuring the business benefit and likely trade-offs are well understood prior to execution.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the existing design and build of architecture to identify:
    • Potential threats and risks around design and development strategies
    • Security of data
    • Understanding of hardware and software utilized
    • Investment strategy needed to support future business requirements
    • How, if at all, the various solutions work alongside each other
  • Engage directly with TP Connects on development pathway, business requirements and key outcomes required
    • Identify and evaluate technical options for the design and implementation of solutions going forward
  • Once designed, oversee the development and implementation of solutions, providing technical leadership and support to development teams, ensuring delivery is to agreed design
  • Ensure solutions
    • Supporting investment/disinvestment cases
    • Identifying and measuring metrics to understand how people are using the product and how it’s performing

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect
  • Hands-on experience with software development and system administration
  • Understanding of strategic IT solutions
  • Experience in project management and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Organizational and leadership skills
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • - You're able to deal with ambiguity, breaking down complex product problems and defining a way forward
  • - You think being challenged on your assumptions and decisions makes you grow, and that challenging others will help them grow
  • - You're an advocate for customers, getting to know their workflows and pain points and turning that understanding into product ideas
  • - You're a clear communicator, both in written and spoken form, able to structure your ideas logically, communicate trade-offs, and explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • - You aren't only comfortable with high-level product thinking - you can dive into the technical details
