Product Designer

WhereTo (now a Flight Centre company) is looking for a Product Designer to join our growing product team as we tackle some of those most interesting problems in business travel.

We're a nimble, startup-minded team within the larger company focused on building the next-generation business travel platform that serves two of Flight Centre's main businesses: SMB travel handled by Corporate Traveler and Enterprise travel handled by FCM.

Having our own autonomy and culture, we're able to take more risks and push code out faster like a startup, but with the resources of a 30+ year old publicly traded company that has considerable cash flow.

If you want to be part of a startup-minded team that has the guidance and resources of a large corporation, where you can learn, take on big projects, and grow your craft, then this is the place for you.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record solving complex interaction problems across multiple platforms. They have an eye for pixel perfect detail, and possess a strong blend of interaction and visual design skills, as well as user-centered design principles. The applicant must have an affinity for consistency, color use, typography, and a keen eye for subtle details. While exercising a good eye for aesthetics, candidates must be able to grasp and distill highly complex issues. Deliverables include wireframes, design mockups, and documentation required for proper implementation.

The candidate must be a natural collaborator with excellent communication skills and able to present design ideas in a team environment. Applicants will report directly to the Head of Product Design and work closely with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Production, Product Marketing, and Senior Management. Prior experience working within a technical environment is a plus. Applicants should be self-motivated, proactive, able to work independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision. Applicants must flourish in a fast paced, multi-project, deadline driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Submitting design concepts for brainstorming and approval in a timely manner.
  • Consulting with the project team and determining visual and interactive design preferences and expectations.
  • Meeting with the project team for feedback and editing designs, when required.
  • Employ design concepts into functional prototypes.
  • Identify new product improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate design with the engineering team.
  • Keeping track of advancements in visual design technologies and applications, as well as industry trends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or similar and equivalent work experience and portfolio.
  • 3-4 years of experience as a Product Designer, or similar.
  • A portfolio of visual design examples, preferably examples of a SaaS product.
  • Advanced proficiency in visual design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite's InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, Figma, Zeplin.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centered design philosophies.
  • Experience in determining visual design preferences and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • BONUS: skilled in iconography animations using After Effects or other animation tools

BONUS: knowledge of programming languages such as HTML and JavaScript would be advantageous.

Benefits Include:

  • Generous remuneration structure
  • Travel perks/discounts.
  • Health & Wellness Programs and Employee Financial Wellness Services
  • Generous paid-time off policy
  • National/International Award Nights and Conferences
  • Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
