At Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) our purpose is to 'open up the world for those who want to see'. Every day, we give people all around the world the opportunity to experience something amazing – travel!

As the Global Leisure Chief Technology Officer (CTO) you'll be accountable for the end-to-end technology and engineering capability across Global Leisure brands for FCTG, ensuring that platforms, architecture, delivery and operations enable profitable growth, superior customer experiences and sustainable cost to serve.

You'll own the technical vision, engineering discipline, technical vendor management, architecture and governance practices for our  Global Leisure brands, translating business and product strategy into scalable, secure and commercially effective technology outcomes.

You will report to the Chief Experience Officer (CXO), and be a core member of the Global Leisure Project Management and Engineering (PM&E) leadership team and partner closely with Product, Communications, Data, Brand SWOTs and Group Technology peers.

Day to day:

  • Engineering Leadership & Capability
Lead, coach, and scale high-performing engineering leaders and teams across brands, regions, and time zones. Set clear expectations for engineering quality, productivity, documentation, and ownership, while ensuring skills, capacity, and structure align to current and future business needs.

  • Architecture & Technical Direction
Own and evolve the Global Leisure target architecture and architectural standards. Drive simplification through modular, loosely coupled systems, actively reduce technical debt, and ensure architectural decisions balance speed, resilience, scalability, and cost.

  • Technology Strategy & Roadmaps
Define and execute the Global Leisure technology strategy and technical roadmaps aligned to business and product OKRs. Ensure technology investment decisions support growth, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

  • Delivery Oversight & Standards
Accountable for delivery execution across Global Leisure engineering initiatives. Own agile delivery practices including planning, estimation, capacity management, risk, and dependency management. Ensure consistent delivery standards while enabling appropriate local autonomy.

  • Governance, Risk & Compliance
Establish and enforce technology governance, standards, and decision rights. Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and industry requirements, and provide transparency on delivery health, technical risk, and investment outcomes.

  • Infrastructure & Reliability
Partner with Group Technology to ensure platforms are reliable, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective. Drive optimisation of infrastructure spend while meeting availability and performance expectations for customer-facing systems.

  • Security
Own cyber security risk across Global Leisure technology. Embed security by design across architecture and delivery practices, and partner with Group Security on controls, monitoring, and incident response.

  • Platform Enablement
Own shared platforms and engineering enablement capabilities that accelerate delivery and innovation. Provide tools, frameworks, and services that maximise developer productivity and are designed for reuse and long-term sustainability.

  • Financial & Commercial Accountability
Manage and influence engineering and technology budgets, ensuring spend remains within agreed limits. Continuously reduce marginal cost to serve and maximise commercial return from existing platforms while avoiding unnecessary engineering risk.

  • Executive Partnership
Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership and brand executives. Collaborate with Product, Finance, and peers on strategy, investment prioritisation, resourcing, and delivery commitments to achieve business and growth outcomes.

Key role requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years senior technology leadership experience, with accountability for multiple engineering teams and senior technical leaders in large-scale B2C or transaction-heavy environments, ideally in travel or adjacent industries
  • Proven success leading complex, multi-brand, global engineering organisations
  • Proven experience establishing and operating technology practices, policies, and governance forums covering architecture, engineering standards, delivery discipline, ways of working, and vendor management
  • A track record of success in fast-paced, action-oriented environments that demand sound judgement, rapid decision-making, and execution under pressure
  • Strong engineering and architectural background with deep technical credibility
  • Demonstrated ability to align technology strategy with commercial and customer outcomes
  • Experience operating in global, matrixed organisations and leveraging low-cost centres of excellence
  • Technical degree required; advanced degree preferred
